The labyrinths of time vanish

When a yellow tree turned into birds

Tiny world, boundless heart

The backwaters of a poem

Macro Colour is a series of 12 images from the cycle Reading Lorca: 12 poetic, abstract landscapes – close-ups, a macro view of colour on paper.

Inspired by the poetry of Federico García Lorca, Macro Colour images are not illustrations of Lorca's texts, but rather illustrations of the experience of reading them, i.e. the reader's use of his poetry.

The theme I explore through this series is the individual's experience of a work of art. I created these images through an artistic process that imitates my inner experience while reading poetry:

1. I read (= I paint the motif)

2. I immerse myself in content that evokes associations and representations from my own world (= I add cut outs)

3. I experience the literary work subjectively, from my point of view (= I photograph the painted motif from certain angles) or delve deeper (= I scan in the painted details that I can then magnify)

4. Overall impression, a sense of harmony or tension when reading is complete (= I retouch the photos or scans digitally)

Although Macro Colour are suggestive of landscape and space, their purpose is not to represent content or visual motifs. Rather, they aim to express the mood and emotions of the reader, conveyed primarily through colour, followed by texture and the play of light and shadow. They come to life through investigating the nature and potential of the medium: colour inks on mulberry paper in combination with three-dimensional collage, photography and digital editing.

How does the pigment, which is slowly absorbed by the paper, record time? How do we look at colour up close, to see its texture and depth? Can colour become tangible, like an emotion materialises through a poem?

The images from the Reading Lorca cycle are presented in a small format, intimate and quiet, like reading poetry.
